What voltage and power outlets are used in Asia?

We use the same, third world outlets that the US uses: 2 flat pins. Newer buildings have the 3rd earth pin. Some places use 2 round pins. Some place have sockets that can handle both. 2 flat pins will work anywhere and adaptors are less than a dollar. 220v - but hotels will have a 110v socket for electric razors.

As for power adapters. If you look on the power adapter to your electronics you should see something like “110-220v”…. they can take either voltage, so all you have to do is change the plugs. The exception to this is some smaller crap like hair dryers and some electric razors, which will melt if you plug them in over here.

Your iPod adapter should work fine in Thailand. It already supports 240v. Most plugs in Thailand are 2 flat prongs but without the ground plug like the U.S. so almost every 2 prong adapter from the U.S. will work in Thailand.

I never had an adapter in Thailand. Most plugs there are shaped so they accept the round prongs and our US style plugs. The only difference is the voltage, which most consumer electronics in the US account for. The only thing I had a problem with is Thai stuff isn’t grounded a lot of the time, so you sometimes won’t have an outlet with a third prong (and the one you do have shoots sparks out a lot). You can pick up a third prong adapter at street stalls, Tesco and many other places though, so no worries.
One nice thing about Thailand is that if you’re looking to buy something, every vendor knows one person who can sell it to you if you can wait around while they run it through the coconut telegraph.
