What is the nightlife like in Vietnam?

Hanoi has a curfew. 11pm. Cops walk into bars and evict people…but there is usually always somewhere else to go. Don’t wander the old quarter at 4AM by yourself…you are a dead easy target..pissed and alone.
Vietnamese girls in the north are very conservative. The ones you meet at bars are angling for a western husband or are prostitutes. In the South you have a much better chance of meeting liberal girls who want to have some fun. Forget chasing tail in Hanoi.

Bring long trousers. Even when it is hot you may need to look respectable… long pants is enough for a man. A woman should cover up their shoulders when wanting to look respectable.

Learn the language…or at least enough to not get ripped off. Once you drop some Vietnamese, people really take a shining to you and prices fall rapidly. “Toi Khong Phai La Ga” or “I am not a chicken”.

There are some liberal Vietnamese girls in Hanoi (Read: rich), but they are hard to find and you really are just better off going after other backpackers. Horny expats are also a great target. Westerner female expats - don’t like the odds.

Well … Those tips above are very true and comprehensive about traveling in Hanoi. I hope soon Hanoi will be more open and nightlife can be more fun, at least like in Ho Chi Minh City.
