What’s a good place in Bangkok to get some clothes and a good quality daypack?

For clothes there are plenty of options… it depends on whether you’re after T-shirts/jeans or tailor-made stuff. MBK is a huge mall at Siam Square that has a lot, and there’s a mall entirely for clothes called Platinum in Pratunam, one stop away on the Skytrain. Jatujak sells pretty much everything under the sun and would be a good bet as well. Someone else could probably make a recommendation for a tailor.

I made a recommendation a while back for a place called gmcstyle.com. You can also check out this post on buying a tailored suit for more information.

actually, shirts, pants and accessories i think are the cheapest in thailand. if you’re in bangkok, do check out the stalls lined up along khao san road, as they have the coolest tees, not necessarily the cheapest. i bought $4 jeans in Pratunam mall and they fit perfectly, some markets along the way, you can find $1.50 shirts. But best to make a trip to chatuchak market coz that’s where the cheapest stuff are sold. you could buy three shirts for 100 baht, around $2, shoes cost 4 up. loads of stuff to buy in chatuchak but be ready with the heat, its almost unbearable, try to hydrate yourself with water. And don’t even think about using the toilet there.
