I’ve heard that you can go to a firing range in Phnom Penh and fire an RPG-7 at a cow?

There’s an army shooting range in/just outside of Phnom Penh that tourist’s frequent. Being from the battle-hardened and gun-toting United States, the only thing that piqued my curiosity was the rocket launcher. I couldn’t get the guy to budge from $100 to blow up a cow, so I didn’t go.

When you turn up in Phnom Penh you’ll scarcely be able to avoid it, just tell any moto driver who is nagging you that you want to go to “the gun range” or “the firing range.” It’s a bit of a hike out of town on a moto, but not too far.

They had outlawed the shooting of the RPG at the cow before I got there, I think they still had the “throw a grenade at a bunch of chickens for $20″ thing while I was there. Yes, I’m serious.

The shooting range is a rip off. They have a menu (literally, just like one at a restaurant) with things like:Handgun 10 bullets- 15 dollars, AK47 -30 dollars and so on. It was so expensive. It is only 5 minutes drive from the killing fields. My moto driver took me there but I didn’t want to shoot anything because it was just so overpriced.

Duck was $15USD, they ate it.

The guns in Cambodia when I was there a couple weeks ago was $10 to fire a clip from a handgun and $30 to fire a clip from an AK-47. Both prices were at non-living targets, and those were the only prices I asked for. There’s one in Phuket, Thailand too, but its just handguns, 22. Rifles and shotguns at paper targets, and way more expensive ($25 to fire 10 bullets from a handgun?!)

Haha, no way. I’d definitely shoot a cow if they butchered it and we got to eat it. Best barbecue story ever.

Hey mate, I done this last month in April when I was in PP. The one bloke is right you can’t shoot the cow anymore but there is ducks and things to shoot at. It’s like being a Yank or something. Brilliant fun but lots of dosh really.

Are there any different ranges that are a bit cheaper than this one? Sounds fun the prices that people mentioned are pretty high.
