Angkor Wat looks amazing and huge, how much time should I allow myself to see it properly?

As far as Angkor Wat is concerned, you can buy 1,3 or 7 day passes to see the temples. In my opinion 3 days is really optimal. 7 is probably better if you have specific historical/archaeological interests. 1 day is really not worth it after you’ve made it all that way.
Find a local motodop guide (dude with motorbike and sometimes a trailer) who will show you around for $5-$10 a day. Don’t do the bus tours or you will be herded around a bit like a sheep and always be in the temples at their busiest times. Also, make the effort to make the trip out to Banteay Srei, it’s out of the way a bit, but one of the most exquisitely carved temples.
